On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Jilin University's Northeast Asian area and country studies institutions and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Northeast Asian Studies College, the "Northeast Asia Peace and Development Forum (2024)", co-hosted by the Institute for Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asia Joint Research Institute of the Ministry of Education, and the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Jilin University, was held in Changchun on October 12, 2024. Jiang Zhiying, the Secretary of the CPC Jilin University Committee, attended the opening ceremony and met with some participating guests.
On behalf of the university's Party Committee and President Zhang Xi, Jiang Zhiying extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all guests.
Han Xiping, the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jilin University Committee and Dean of the Institute for Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies of Jilin University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Qu Hongmei, Dean of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Jilin University, and the keynote session was chaired by Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. Li Xiangyang, Sodnomchogo, Yury Kulintsev, Kim Dong-soo, Kazuko Takaya and Ba Dianjun, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, delivered keynote speeches respectively on the topics of "China's High-Level Opening-Up Boosts Regional Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia", "Cooperation Initiatives and Challenging Issues of Northeast Asian Countries", "Geopolitical Challenges and Prospects of Russia-China Cooperation Under the Current Environment", "Challenges and Cooperation Plans for Northeast Asian Economic Cooperation", "China's Food Security and the Possibility of Japan-China Cooperation — A Case Study of Japanese Trading Companies", and "An Era of Uncertainty: Dilemmas and Breakthrough Paths for Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia".
The one-day forum gathered more than 150 experts and scholars on Northeast Asian issues from nearly 50 universities and research institutions at home and abroad, including the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University and Far Eastern Federal University; the Strategic Research Institute of the National Security Council of Mongolia, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the National University of Mongolia; the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, the Seoul Institute, the East Asia Institute of Aging and Welfare and Sogang University; Waseda University, Niigata Prefectural University and Kwansei Gakuin University of Japan; as well as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, China University of Political Science and Law, Fudan University, Nanjing University and Xiamen University. During the thematic discussion session, 70 experts and scholars from Russia, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, China and other countries delivered exchange reports on ten topics under five themes: "National Politics and Regional Situation in Northeast Asia", "National Economies and Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia", "Population Issues and Social Development in Northeast Asia", "People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations in Northeast Asia", and "New Prospects for the Revitalization of Northeast China's Old Industrial Bases". They discussed the current challenges facing Northeast Asia, shared national experiences, explored solutions, and offered suggestions for the peace and development of the region.

It is reported that the Northeast Asia Peace and Development Forum (2024) is the 14th one, and also the largest in scale and participation since its launch. As one of the series of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Jilin University's Northeast Asian area and country studies institutions and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Northeast Asian Studies College, the forum has been continuously improving its academic contribution and expanding the depth and breadth of its discussion themes, keeping pace with the current theoretical and practical demands of the development of area and country studies.
Relevant officials from departments and units of Jilin University, including the Party Committee Office, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Office of Global Cooperation and Exchanges, and the Northeast Asian Studies College, as well as faculty representatives from relevant university units, accompanied the guests and attended the opening ceremony.
