Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University Releases a Research Outcome on the Belt and Road Initiative
On October 24, 2023, Jilin University held a press conference on achievements related to the Belt and Road Initiative. At the conference, the book “Studies on Economic Corridor of China, Mongolia and Russia” by Professor Yang Dongliang of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University was officially released. Li Hongming, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jilin University Committee and Head of the Publicity Office of the CPC Jilin University Committee, attended the press conference. The event was presided over by Feng Zichen, Deputy Director of the Publicity Office of the CPC Jilin University Committee.
At the press conference, Professor Yang Dongliang introduced the writing and publication process of “Studies on Economic Corridor of China, Mongolia and Russia”. He noted that the China–Mongolia–Russia Economic Corridor is both an important starting point of the Belt and Road construction and a key indicator of its effectiveness, making it a highly significant research topic. The book centers on the “Five Connectivities” of Belt and Road construction—namely policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and people-to-people bonds. It interprets the historical background of the China–Mongolia–Russia Economic Corridor from the perspective of the ancient Silk Road and discusses current achievements in multilateral relations and infrastructure development. Based on a systematic exposition of theories of international regional economic cooperation, the study conducts quantitative analysis and objectively examines the economic development of China, Mongolia, and Russia from multiple perspectives. By calculating indicators such as the trade intensity index, revealed comparative advantage index, and trade complementary index, it analyzes issues related to bilateral and multilateral trade facilitation. Through literature review and field investigations, it identifies challenges facing the construction of the China–Mongolia–Russia Economic Corridor and proposes corresponding policy suggestions.
Professor Yang Dongliang also provided detailed responses to questions raised by journalists, including how Northeast China can better promote regional cooperation in Northeast Asia. More than 20 domestic media outlets, including People’s Daily Online, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Online, China Daily, Science and Technology Daily, Chinese Social Sciences Today, Phoenix TV, and Jilin Daily, attended the press conference.
