From January 12 to January 16, 2025, at the invitation of  Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade (KIET), Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), and Korea University, Professor Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, led a delegation to South Korea for academic exchanges.

On January 13, the symposium titled “China–ROK Economic Cooperation in the New Era,” jointly organized by KIET, the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, and the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, was held in Sejong City, South Korea. Kim Chun Kon, Vice President of KIET, and Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, delivered opening remarks respectively. The head of the Office of Public Relations and Media, KIET introduced the institute’s cooperation with foreign think tanks. The symposium was divided into two sessions: “China–ROK Economic and Trade Relations in the New Era” and “Exploring China–ROK Cooperation under the New Environment.” The sessions were chaired by Kim Soo-dong, Head of the Global Competitiveness Strategy Research Group at KIET, and Professor Zhang Huizhi, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University. Kim Jae-deok, Chief Representative of KIET Beijing Office, and Associate Professor Xuan Chunji from the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University delivered keynote speeches on “Three Provinces in Northeast China and China–ROK Cooperation” and “Current Status and Drivers of Korean Investment in China” respectively. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on China–ROK economic cooperation strategies in the new era, as well as trade and investment in Northeast Asia. At the end of the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on collaborative research and academic exchange, agreeing to further strengthen institutionalized and regular cooperation to jointly contribute intellectual support to China–ROK economic cooperation.

On January 14, a symposium was held in Sejong City jointly by Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, and the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. An Sung-bae, Vice President for External Affairs at KIEP, and Wu Hao delivered opening remarks respectively. Scholars including Zhang Huizhi, Wang Yanjun, Xuan Chunji, and Jin Huizhen from Jilin University, together with experts from KIEP, engaged in in-depth discussions on “The Impact of China–ROK Relations on Economic Development in the New Era” and “Cooperation Models and Policy Responses under the New Situation.” During the meeting, both sides reached a series of agreements on academic research cooperation, joint organization of international conferences, and visiting scholar exchanges.

On January 15, the academic symposium titled “China–ROK Cooperation Strategies in the Trump 2.0 Era,” jointly organized by Korea University, the Korea Economic Association, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, was held in Seoul, South Korea. Scholars from Korea University, Yonsei University, Konkuk University, Kyungpook National University, Jilin University, and other institutions participated in academic exchanges. Kwon Won soon,   President of the Association of Korean Economics Studies (AKES), Lee Geun, President-elect of the Korea Economic Association (KEA), and Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, delivered speeches respectively. Scholars from China and the ROK held in-depth discussions on China–ROK economic cooperation during the Trump era, Trump’s tariff policies, and regional trade cooperation in Northeast Asia.
