High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies- "The Russian Economy under Economic Sanctions" Held Successfully

    On November 26th, 2022, a high-end lecture on "The Russian Economy under Economic Sanctions" of the High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies was successfully held online. The lecture was jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and the Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University invited SHIDA YOSHISADA, Associate Professor of the Department of International Economics, School of Economics, Seinan Gakuin University, Japan, to give this lecture. The lecture was hosted by Professor Li Tianzi of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University and translated by Associate Professor Li Hongmei of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. Faculty members and students of the Northeast Asian Studies College attended the lecture online. At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Li Tianzi extended a warm welcome to Prof. SHIDA YOSHISADA on behalf of Prof. Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.


    Prof. SHIDA YOSHISADA is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of International Economics, School of Economics, Seinan Gakuin University, Japan, a researcher at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Japan, and the Acting Director and Chief Researcher of the Research and Studies Department of the Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia (ERINA). His main research areas are Soviet economic history, Russian economy, spatial economics, regional development, etc.


    In his lecture, Prof. SHIDA YOSHISADA introduced the content and background related to economic sanctions against Russia, briefly reviewed the existing research progress on the Russian economy under economic sanctions, and analyzed the impact of economic sanctions, whether the Russian economy has adapted to economic sanctions, the response measures taken by the Russian government, and the recovery effect of economic sanctions. Prof. SHIDA YOSHISADA introduced in detail the survey data of Russian enterprises used in the study and discussed the Russian economy under economic sanctions in terms of regional differences and the impact pathways of sanctions, comparison of the effects of different shocks caused by economic sanctions and financial crisis, subjective and objective evaluation indicators, persistence of effects, and the role of the state.


    The response to Prof. Shida's lecture was enthusiastic, and the attending students and faculty members asked questions on topics of interest, which Prof. Shida answered patiently and carefully. At the end, Prof. Li Tianzi commented that Prof. Shida's research had provided a new perspective for the in-depth understanding of the Russian economy under economic sanctions by using the data from the Russian micro-enterprise survey to make a detailed assessment, and he hoped that Prof. Shida would have the opportunity to come to Jilin University for more in-depth academic exchanges in the future.
