From April 8 to April 10, 2024, the academic seminar on “Russia–DPRK Relations under Geopolitical Changes in Northeast Asia: ‘Transformations and Impacts’” was held at Jilin University. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, and the Institute for Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies of Jilin University, and co-hosted by the CASS major innovation project “Studies on China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries”, the Office of Northeast Frontier Research Institute of China Borderland Studies, and the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

During the conference, more than 20 experts and scholars from the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies (CASS), the National Institute of International Strategy Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIIS CASS), the Institute of American Studies, the Institute of Eurasian Studies of the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, the Northeast Asian Studies Institute of the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of Yanbian University, the Center for Russian Language, Literature and Culture Studies of Heilongjiang University, the Scientific Socialism Teaching and Research Department, Party School of the CPC Central Committee, as well as the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University and the School of Administration of Jilin University gathered to discuss relevant issues.

Participants focused on geopolitical changes in Northeast Asia and engaged in in-depth discussions around four major themes: “Geostrategic Security in Northeast Asia and New Changes in Russia–DPRK Relations,” “Northeast Asian Transformations and Russia’s Policy Considerations toward the DPRK,” “Northeast Asian Transformations and the Evolution of DPRK Policy toward Russia,” and “Regional and International Impacts of Changes in Russia–DPRK Relations.”
