International Academic Conference on “Changes in the Situation of Northeast Asia and New Trends in Interstate Relations” Successfully Held
On July 5, 2024, the International Academic Conference on “Changes in the Situation of Northeast Asia and New Trends in Interstate Relations,” jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, the Institute of North Korean and South Korean Studies of Jilin University, and the Institute for East Asian Studies of Dongseo University (South Korea), was successfully held in Kuang Yaming Building.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Zhang Huizhi, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University. Professor Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, and Shin Jung-seung, President of the Institute for East Asian Studies at Dongseo University and former Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to China, delivered opening remarks respectively.

More than twenty scholars from Jilin University, Dongseo University, Sejong University, the Sejong Institute, and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies participated in the conference and held in-depth discussions on three major themes: “New Changes in the Situation of Northeast Asia,” “New Trends in Interstate Relations in Northeast Asia,” and “New Developments on the Korean Peninsula.” This conference was one of the series of academic activities marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Northeast Asian area and country studies institutions at Jilin University and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. It also represented the eighth joint academic conference since the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University and the Institute for East Asian Studies of Dongseo University. Both Chinese and Korean sides expressed satisfaction with eight years of sustained cooperation and expressed their willingness to further deepen cooperation and expand areas of collaboration.
