On March 27, 2025, the international academic conference titled “The Roles of China and Russia under Major Changes in the International Order” is jointly hosted by the Northeast Asia Research Center of Jilin University, the Department of Political Science of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Foundation for the Development of Political Science in Russia , the Institute for Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College / Northeast Asian Studies Institute of Jilin University, and the Institute of Russian Studies of Jilin University, was successfully held. More than 20 experts and scholars from Jilin University, Peking University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and National Research University Moscow Power Engineering Institute participated online and engaged in comprehensive and in-depth discussions on the theme.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Zhao Yang, Vice Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. Professor Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University and Executive Dean of the Institute for Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies of Jilin University, and Professor Aleksei Mamychev, Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science of Lomonosov Moscow State University, delivered opening remarks in turn. Dean Wu Hao expressed gratitude to Chinese and Russian scholars for their support of the conference, noting that it is an important outcome of institutionalized cooperation between the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University and the Department of Political Science of Lomonosov Moscow State University. He added that both sides will continue to deepen comprehensive cooperation and jointly contribute to academic exchange between China and Russia. In his speech, Professor Aleksei Mamychev, conveyed congratulations from Academician Andrey Shutov, Head of the Department of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, on the successful convening of the conference, noting that both sides have established a sustainable cooperation framework and expressing expectations for cooperation to reach a higher level in the future.

Participants conducted in-depth and comprehensive discussions on two topics: “Major Changes in the Current International Order” and “China and Russia in the Emerging International Order.” Scholars from both China and Russia agreed that the two countries are playing an important role in the transformation of the international order. China’s concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has significant implications for promoting global peace and development. They further emphasized that both sides should properly understand the opportunities and challenges under changes in the international order and deepen cooperation in areas such as energy trade, technological security, and high-tech innovation.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Aleksei Mamychev,, Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Professor Xu Bo, Director of the Institute of Russian Studies at Jilin University, delivered remarks and expressed gratitude for the support and participation of all the attending scholars. Both sides agreed that the conference deepened scholars’ understanding of changes in the international order and their implications, and established a strong platform for academic exchange between China and Russia in area and country studies.
This conference was the second international academic event jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University and the Department of Political Science of Lomonosov Moscow State University following the signing of their comprehensive cooperation agreement. In the future, the two institutions will continue to deepen high-level cooperation in talent cultivation and academic exchange, contributing to people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia.
