From March 24 to March 28, 2026, at the invitation of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Professor Hou Jianming, Professor Zhang Huizhi, Professor Li Tianzi, Professor Xu Bo, Associate Professor Zheng Guoqiang, and lecturer Natalia Gurbanova from the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University visited Moscow to participate in the Third International Academic Conference “Traditional and Modern East: Development Trends.” They also had in-depth discussions with the university’s leadership on further implementing the bilateral double-degree program and enhancing cooperation.
From March 25 to 26, the Third International Academic Conference “Traditional and Modern East: Development Trends,” jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University and the Department of International Economics of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, was successfully held in Moscow. Professor Hou Jianming delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He stated that 2026 will mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China–Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation and the “China–Russia Year of Education .” As important partners, both sides will continue to carry out high-quality academic exchanges and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to China–Russia strategic cooperation.
More than 80 scholars from universities and research institutions in China and Russia—including Jilin University, the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, National Research University Higher School of Economics, and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia—participated in the conference, engaging in in-depth discussions on regional economics, international relations, and historical and cultural issues. Professor Zhang Huizhi, Professor Li Tianzi, Professor Xu Bo, Associate Professor Zheng Guoqiang, and lecturer Natalia delivered presentations on topics such as Northeast Asian regional security, China–Russia economic cooperation, contemporary Chinese diplomacy, and international economic development.
During the conference, Vice Rectors Kamenyeva and Brilevskaya of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, along with representatives of the Department of International Economics, held cooperation talks with the delegation from the Northeast Asian Research Center. Both sides discussed continuing the implementation of the undergraduate double-degree program in economics, organizing reciprocal China–Russia student summer schools, and strengthening joint graduate training. They agreed to further expand the scale and improve the outcomes of cooperation. After the conference, Professor Xu Bo was invited as a visiting professor to deliver an academic lecture on Chinese diplomacy and China–Russia relations for faculty and students of the Department of International Economics.
This event effectively deepened the cooperation between the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. It played an important role in strengthening the effectiveness of institutional cooperation with Russia, and promoting high-quality development of regional and country studies.
