Some Faculty Members of the Northeast Asian Studies College Participated in an Online Academic Conference Hosted by the Department for North Korean Studies at Dongguk University

    On the morning of May 26th, 2021, the Northeast Asian Studies College, the Northeast Asian Research Center, and the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies, the Department for North Korean Studies at Dongguk University in South Korea and Center for Korean Studies at Ritsumeikan University in Japan jointly held an academic conference with the theme of Peace and Security Relations in Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula after the Biden Administration Took Office. The conference was hosted by the Department for North Korean Studies at Dongguk University and was conducted online.

    Professor Wu Hao, Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, while Professor Kao Youhwan, President of the Korea Institute for National Unification, Professor Kim Yong-hyun, Director of the Department for North Korean Studies at Dongguk University, and Katsumura Makoto , Director of the Center of Korean Studies at Ritsumeikan University, delivered speeches respectively. Professor Zhang Huizhi, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center and Director of the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies, and six other participants attended the conference, which was observed by master's and doctoral students from the Northeast Asian Studies College. The meeting discussed in depth the Sino-U.S. relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the Biden administration took office.

    Since 1993, the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies of Jilin University has established academic ties with the Department for North Korean Studies at Dongguk University, becoming the first academic exchange between China and South Korea. In the 20 years from 1993 to 2013, the two sides jointly held 15 international academic conferences. Since 2014, the Center for Korean Studies at Ritsumeikan University has also joined this cooperation mechanism, and China, Japan and South Korea have hosted international academic conferences every year on a rotating basis to discuss peace cooperation in Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula issue, and have achieved fruitful academic results.
