High-end Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies - The Subject of the Situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Peace Process

    On November 4th, 2021, Professor Kim Young-hyun of the North Korean Studies of Dongguk University in South Korea gave an online academic report with the theme of The Situation on the Korean Peninsula and The Peace Process at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center and Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University. The academic report was chaired by Professor Zhang Huizhi, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center and Director of the Institute of Korean Peninsular Studies, with Professor Jin Xiangdan as the interpreter, and the research team on the Korean Peninsula and graduate students from related majors participated in the event online or offline.

    Professor Kim Young-hyun currently serves as the Director of the North Korean Studies of Dongguk University, a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Ministry of National Defense and the Korean Institute for National Unification, and a member of the Council of International Politics of Korea, focusing on North Korean political diplomacy and regional security in Northeast Asia. Professor Kim Rong-hyun focused on analyzing the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, the impact of the U.S.- South Korea summit, and the construction of the peace process on the Korean peninsula, and put forward unique insights on the Declaration of the End of War. In the exchange with teachers and students, Professor Kim Rong-hyun answered questions such as the impact of the South Korean election on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and U.S.-North Korea relations. Finally, Professor Zhang Huizhi expressed her gratitude to Professor Kim Rong-hyun for his wonderful lectures and academic sharing.

    This academic report is part of a series of reports on the high-end forum for countries and regions studies in Northeast Asia, and the wonderful lecture content and in-depth communication between students and faculty members have left a deep impression on the students, enhanced the understanding of the Korean Peninsula issues among the faculty and students, broadened the academic horizons, and has positive significance for the academic cooperation between the institute and South Korea.
