High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies- "Competitiveness of Japanese-type Production System and its Limitations"

    On December 3rd, 2021, Professor FUJIKAWA SHOGO of the Faculty of Commerce of Seinan Gakuin University, Japan, delivered an online lecture on "Competitiveness of Japanese-type Production System and its Limitations" at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, the Institute of Northeast Asian Studies, and the Institute of Japanese Studies of Jilin University. The lecture was held simultaneously both as an online lecture and in person. Associate Professor Li Hongmei, deputy director of the Institute of World Economics, Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, was the moderator and on-site interpreter. The lecture was attended by some faculty members, postgraduate students and Ph.D. students from the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

    Prof. Fujikawa is a member of Japan’s Association of East Asia Regional Studies, and a visiting scholar at the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University in China, and a former special investigator at the Japanese Embassy in Korea. His research focuses on the agglomeration of the automobile industry in Japan (Kyushu), Korea and China.

    Professor Fujikawa's lecture was divided into four parts: the first part was about the competitiveness of the Japanese manufacturing industry; the second part introduced the Japanese type production system and its advantages; the third part introduced the limitations of the Japanese type production system; the fourth part discussed the feasibility of Japanese type production in China.

    In the question and answer session, Professor Fujikawa gave wonderful answers to the questions raised by the students and faculty members. Finally, Mr. Ren Weitong from the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University made a wonderful comment on the lecture and expressed his gratitude to Professor Fujikawa for sharing his research results.

    This academic lecture was one of the lectures in the High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and part of the lecture series of Japanese experts. The success of the lecture has enhanced the understanding of the contents and limitations of the Japanese production system and its applicability in China, broadened the academic horizons and made a positive contribution to the academic exchange activities between our college and Japan.
