High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies- "Transportation and Logistics in Northeast Asia" Held Successfully

    On December 1st, 2022, Professor MACHIDA IPPEI from the Department of Commerce of Meiji University, Japan, delivered an online lecture on "Transportation and Logistics in Northeast Asia" at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, the Institute of Japanese Studies of Jilin University, and the Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The lecture was moderated by Associate Professor Li Hongmei, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economics, Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.  

    Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI is a permanent member of the Japan Society of Logistics, a former research director of the Economic Research Department of Nitto Research Institute, and a visiting scholar at the University of Hawaii. He has extensively studied international transportation and logistics.

    In his lecture, Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI, who is fluent in Chinese, introduced the current situation and characteristics of transportation and logistics in Northeast Asia, focusing on the issue of "how to increase the value of logistics". Professor Machida emphasized the issues that need to be considered in logistics: the first point is to pay attention to the characteristics of the goods to be transported and to treat different goods differently; the second point is to pay attention to the temperature of transportation; and the third point is speed. Finally, he analyzed the challenges faced by transportation and logistics in Northeast Asia.

    Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI constantly interacted with students and faculty members during the lecture. In particular, he made students actively think, answer questions and participate in discussions, and the lecture atmosphere was very active. Associate Professor Li Hongmei summarized and commented on the online lecture and expressed her gratitude to Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI for sharing his research results.

    This academic lecture was one of the lectures in the High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies and part of the lecture series in Japanese Studies. The success of the lecture has enhanced the understanding of Northeast Asian transportation and logistics among the faculty and students of the College, broadened their academic horizons and had a positive impact on the academic exchange activities between the College and Japan.
