High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies-“The Establishment of Connectivity in Northeast Asia from the Perspective of Transportation” Held Successfully

    On December 8th, 2022, Professor MACHIDA IPPEI from the Department of Commerce of Meiji University, Japan, delivered an online lecture on "The Establishment of Connectivity in Northeast Asia from the Perspective of Transportation” at the invitation of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, the Institute of Japanese Studies of Jilin University, and the Special Committee for Northeast Asian Regional Studies, Academic Association for International Cultural Exchange. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Li Hongmei, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economics, Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

    Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI is a permanent member of the Japan Society of Logistics and a visiting scholar at the University of Hawaii. He was the Research Director of the Economic Research Department of the Nitto Research Institute. His main research area is international transportation and logistics.

    Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI examined the establishment of connectivity in Northeast Asia from the perspective of transportation. The lecture is divided into six parts: the first part was about the characteristics of logistics in Northeast Asia; the second part discussed the possibility of building a logistics hub on the Korean Peninsula; the third part analyzed the position of the Far East of Russia and Mongolia in the logistics of Northeast Asia; the fourth part introduced the role of Japan in the logistics of Northeast Asia; the fifth part evaluated the possibility of the opening of the Arctic route; the sixth part discussed the role of Northeast China in the logistics of Northeast Asia.

    Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI constantly interacted with students and faculty members during the lecture, and the atmosphere of the lecture was lively. At the end, Associate Professor Li Hongmei summarized and commented on the online lecture and expressed her gratitude to Prof. MACHIDA IPPEI for sharing his research results.

    This academic lecture was one of the lectures in the High-End Symposium on Northeast Asia International and Regional Studies and part of the lecture series in Japanese Studies. The success of the lecture has enhanced the understanding of the logistics of Northeast Asia among the faculty and students of the College, broadened their academic horizons and had a positive impact on the academic exchange activities between the College and Japan.
