I. Training Objectives and Basic Requirements

(1) Training Objectives

With a view to serving the strategic needs of China and aiming at the construction of new liberal arts, the programme aims to cultivate senior professional talents with a broad and solid theoretical background knowledge on the world economy, an international perspective and familiarity with the basic patterns of economic development in Northeast Asian countries. The talents are required to be able to engage in the practice and management of economics, finance and trade in research institutes, large and medium-sized Chinese or foreign enterprises, government departments and financial and securities institutions.

(2) Basic Requirements

1.Students are required to be patriotic, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, behave in full compliance with relevant laws and regulations, have a high sense of social responsibility, and develop comprehensively in morality, intelligence and physical health.

2.Students are required to learn and master the basic theories of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Important Thought of the Three Represents, the Scientific Outlook on Development and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

      3. Students are required to be able to systematically grasp the basic theories and systematic expertise of the world economy, and apply the basic theories in academic research and exploration.

4. Students are required to be able to systematically grasp the basic issues and national strategic orientations of economic and social development in countries including Japan, North Korea and South Korea, and Russia, to be able to proficiently apply world economic theories to analyze the links and rules between the regional economy of Northeast Asia and the world economy, and to develop the ability to analyze and solve problems in the process of Chinas opening up to the outside world.

      5. Students are required to be proficient in using a foreign language, computer technologies and modern economic research tools. They need to have strong written and verbal skills, and the ability to engage in world economic research, and to apply theory in social practice.


II. Research Directions

1. Northeast Asian Regional Economy

The focus is the theory and practice of regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia.

2. Japanese economy

The focus is the development, patterns and international cooperation of the Japanese economy in the post-war period.

3. Economy of the DPRK and ROK

The focus is the process, reform and international cooperation of economic and social development since the founding of the DPRK and ROK.

4. Russian Economy

The focus is the development and international cooperation of Russias industrial and energy economy in the post-Cold War period.


III. Training Method

    Mentorship is implemented for the training of master students. In the first semester after admission, the mentor of the postgraduate will be determined in the principle of two-way selection, and the training plan will be formulated. A combination of individual supervision by a mentor and collective training by a steering group led by the mentor will be practised. To achieve the training objectives and basic requirements for postgraduates, scientific research and teaching will be integrated in courses of classical theories, sound training on cutting-edge methodologies, and academic exchange of phased academic results.


IV. Duration of Study and Maximum Length of Study

    The duration of study for postgraduates education is 3 years, and the maximum length of study on campus is 4 years.
